Thought Field Therapy (TFT) is a homeopathic approach to relieve distress through tapping with one’s fingertips on upper body points and hands. The theory is that while an individual focuses on the distressing thought, they tap in a particular algorithm to calm the body’s response system to the actual thought. Perturbations occur as the cause of distressful emotions and what TFT would refer to as the blocking of chi. In order to work through the flow of chi, one taps in a particular algorithm related to the type of situation, for example, a different algorithm exists for anxiety versus claustrophobia. TFT has been successful to treat symptoms of PTSD, urges, phobias, depression, anxieties and much more. Anita Avedian, LMFT, has incorporated TFT as part of her treatment for the past 20+ years, and has found it to be one of the fastest approaches to relieving distress for clients. Though it does not help everyone, the success rate is astonishing. In order for TFT to have better success, there are certain guidelines for clients to follow, including not to have coffee or food 1-2 hours prior to the treatment. Anita collaborates with other therapists who would like to refer for the TFT treatment only while they continue to do therapy with the client. |
